We went in early and were seen straight away.
Fairly prompt appointment, helpful staff.
Have been to this dept twice had excellent care from everyone involved.
The aeau, unit staff were excellent, sister Carol, HCA Sam and Chris, wonderful, put me at ease and explained everything clearly.
The aeu ward is very dirty! On arrival at. My bed, the chair beside it was covered in faeces, which I only noticed after sitting on it. I wipes it and reported it and a nurse then came to clean it but this is totally unacceptable and no excuse for this as the ward seemed very well staffed for the small number of patients.
The toilets are very dirty, public hair on sink, urine on toilet and faeces on floor, bins overflowing and smelly. Bin was not changed for 2 days. Staff should clean the toilet after assisted toilet trips. Also only 1 toilet door could be locked, again no privacy, the locks were broken and had signage, please knock, again completely unacceptable.
The hand wash sink in the ward was blocked for 2 days, I washed my hands and dirty water remained in the sink for the 2 days.
No communication between doctors and nurses, which led to poor patient care and frustration, ward nurses should attend the ward round. Doctor told me I could be discharged and have medication but as this was not communicated, the nurse could not discharge as that doctor had gone home.
I required spe ial diet, vegan, I advised the team on arrival but I was continually given the wrong food, luckily, I was aware enough to notice. Also, catering should have soy milk on the tea trolley as I was told no soy milk on trolley and no time to get it. Also no vegan butter at breakfast, so toast not possible, again no soya milk for breakfast.
I was woken up at 3am for obs and question about my alcohol intake at 3am, not appropriate, patients should not be woken for obs unless critical, midnight and 6am should suffice for most non critical patients to allow adequate rest. Also, lighting should be turned off on wards at night, nurse refused, so I could not sleep. Also, nurse played music through headphones at 4am so loud that the other patients woke up, I had to ask her to turn it down. Also nurse woke me up at 4.30 by checking oxygen worked in ea h Bay, this should be done during the day, patients need to rest to recover. Dementia patients who shout all night should be kept on separate wards together and nurses should try to calm them not just let them shout all night long. I got less than 2 hours sleep each night. Also, nurses should not start getting patients washed and dressed at 5.30am, it's too early and wakes everyo e up. Nurses should also try not to speak loudly, instead, they gossip in the corner loudly.
When I was disc harged at 9am by the doctor, it took the team until 4.60pm to get my meds and paperwork, all that time I was taking up a bed in the ward and continued to have obs and food. Surely there must be a way to make this quicker?
I had a great stay in Swan Ward, albeit an unexpected one!
I was treated at all times with the utmost respect and dignity and found all of the staff and team friendly and helpful. I cannot now remember the names, but Danni was lovely as were all the nursing staff.
I think it would be a nice touch to have a small colour coded card or poster in the room so that it is possible to recognise what the different team members do, making things a little more personal. The food was a pleasant surprise and was consistently good, flavoursome and a good range of choice.
There were a couple of ceiling tiles that needed changing, above my bed in Sideroom 6, as this is a 5 minute job and would greatly improve the appearance and feelings of someone lying in bed.
A surprisingly unexpected and pleasant stay, thank you.
I was admitted to the Surgical Assessment Ward. I would really like to thank the consultants, nurses and healthcare assistants for their kindness towards me which was a bit on the stressful side. I feel they ALL went the extra mile to care for me. I felt safe on the ward and really cared for. I really cannot thank everyone enough. Thank you.

I really cannot thank the consultants, nurses and health care assistants for their kindness towards me. They couldn’t do enough for me even though the department was busy. They ALL went the extra mile. Thank you.
